FAQs

  • Intuitive eating is an approach to health and wellness that focuses on listening to your body's hunger and fullness cues, rather than following strict diets or food rules. It promotes a balanced and neutral relationship with food and encourages you to trust your body to guide your eating choices. Foods are not considered “good” or “bad,” and you are not a good or bad person because of what you choose to eat.

  • Intuitive eating involves paying attention to your body's signals of hunger and fullness, as well as your cravings, preferences, and honoring your culture and food traditions. It encourages you to eat when you are hungry and stop when you are full, without judgment or guilt. It also emphasizes eating for satisfaction and pleasure, rather than strict rules or restrictions, and moving your body in ways that feel enjoyable instead of exercising as a means of shrinking the body or punishing it for eating “bad” foods.

  • Intuitive eating is not a weight loss program. While some people may experience weight changes as they adopt intuitive eating habits, the focus is on improving your relationship with food and your body, rather than on achieving a specific weight or size.

  • I deeply empathize with individuals who are hoping to achieve weight loss. We live in a society that values and praises thinness and excludes, demonizes, and discriminates against fatness. When we work together, we will not focus on a specific (potentially unrealistic) number, and instead focus on improving behaviors.

  • The short answer is YES! You have unconditional permission to eat.

The long answer is that there is a misconception that when eating intuitively, you will "lose control" and only eat cookies and other "junk food" and completely abandon nutrition altogether. One of the things we will focus on in this work is tuning into the body - if you're hungry and you are also craving a cookie, then eat the cookie with no shame or judgement. When we allow ourselves to have cookies and other forbidden foods, they become a natural, normal part of our lives and they lose their power. Part of tuning into the body is also realizing when our body is telling us it is satisfied, and how it feels to continue eating past the point of satisfaction.

So yes, you may eat anything. There are no foods that are "off limits." And also, we'll work to listen and trust that our body knows exactly what it needs.
